The report of The Honourable Bruce Debelle AO QC has now been released.
An inquiry was held into the events and circumstances surrounding the arrest and later conviction on charges of sexual assault by an employee of the Out of School Hours Care Service at a school in metropolitan Adelaide in 2010.
The inquiry report contains several recommendations as to how the Department of Education and Child Development (DECD) and other relevant agencies should manage allegations of sexual misconduct by school staff members.
The report also examines the legal restrictions on the publication of certain information when a person has been charged with a sexual offence – Section 71A of the Evidence Act. It also contains a detailed overview of criminal prosecutions and disciplinary proceedings.
